Once a feature reserved for high-end performance motorcycles, traction control has now made its way to the more affordable end of the spectrum. Initially developed to handle high-power machines and provide a layer of safety for riders, this technology is increasingly becoming common even in sub-₹2 lakh bikes.
In this third chapter of our ongoing series highlighting affordable motorcycles with premium features—after covering TFT displays and cruise control—we now turn our attention to motorcycles under ₹2 lakh that offer traction control, making safer rides more accessible to everyone.
1. Yamaha R15 V4
Price: ₹1.84 lakh (ex-showroom)
The Yamaha R15 V4 leads the pack when it comes to bringing premium features to the entry-level sportbike segment. It is the only motorcycle in its class to offer traction control as standard across all variants—including the top-end R15M, which also gets goodies like a quickshifter and a TFT display. Despite being a 155cc bike, the R15 packs technology typically seen on much larger machines.
2. Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z
Price: ₹1.81 lakh (introductory)
Bajaj’s latest flagship in the Pulsar lineup is powered by a 373cc engine derived from KTM and produces a healthy 40hp. In a segment where value is everything, the NS400Z includes traction control as standard, offering a confidence boost especially to newer riders. Bajaj is also planning a minor upgrade that includes grippier tyres and sintered brake pads, along with a small power bump—though this may come with a slight price increase.
3. Yamaha MT-15 V2
Price: ₹1.70 lakh
The MT-15 V2, Yamaha’s streetfighter sibling of the R15, shares the same engine and chassis. Like its faired counterpart, it features standard traction control, further strengthening Yamaha’s safety-first approach in the 150cc segment. Surprisingly, even the more expensive MT-03 skips this feature.
4. Honda NX200
Price: ₹1.69 lakh
As the only ADV (Adventure Tourer) in this list, the Honda NX200 stands out. It features Honda’s Selectable Torque Control—their version of traction control—which monitors rear wheel slippage and intervenes to maintain grip. While it’s not a powerhouse, this safety aid makes it well-suited for mixed-surface touring.
5. Bajaj Pulsar N250
Price: ₹1.44 lakh
Bajaj introduced traction control to the Pulsar N250 in 2024, making it the first 250cc bike in its segment to receive this feature. It’s a significant move considering that even the pricier KTM 250 Duke does without it. This addition enhances the N250’s appeal as a value-packed all-rounder.
6. Yamaha FZ-X
Price: ₹1.38 lakh
The retro-styled Yamaha FZ-X gained traction control in 2023 with its E20 fuel update. While its 12.4hp output may not demand electronic intervention, this feature is still handy in low-traction conditions such as wet roads or slippery urban streets. That said, it does miss out on dual-channel ABS, which some may consider a more critical safety component.
7. Yamaha FZ-S Fi V4
Price: ₹1.30 lakh (base variant)
The FZ-S Fi V4 lineup starts at ₹1.30 lakh and includes traction control as standard across the board. Even the Hybrid version, with its integrated starter generator system, features this safety aid. Yamaha’s consistent inclusion of rider-focused technology in its 150cc bikes sets a strong precedent in the commuter segment.
Final Thoughts
Traction control is no longer a luxury—it’s rapidly becoming an expectation, even in bikes under ₹2 lakh. Whether you’re a new rider looking for an extra layer of safety, or a seasoned motorcyclist wanting peace of mind during the rainy season, these bikes strike a fine balance between affordability and safety technology.
