Volkswagen is gearing up for an important product refresh in India in 2026. While the German brand’s India portfolio has remained unchanged for several years, the upcoming year will finally see long-overdue updates to its core models, along with the introduction of a brand-new premium SUV. The Virtus sedan and Taigun SUV will receive mid-life facelifts, and Volkswagen will also make a comeback in the three-row SUV segment with the all-new Tayron. Here’s a detailed look at Volkswagen’s India launch plans for 2026.
Volkswagen Tayron (Expected launch: First half of 2026)
Estimated price: Rs 45 lakh to Rs 50 lakh
Engine: 2.0-litre turbo-petrol
The Volkswagen Tayron will headline the brand’s 2026 product offensive and reintroduce VW to the premium three-row SUV category in India. It effectively replaces the discontinued Tiguan Allspace and will be locally assembled using CKD kits at Volkswagen’s Aurangabad facility. In terms of positioning, the Tayron is expected to sit below the Tiguan R-Line.
Powering the Tayron will be a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 204hp and 320Nm, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. Design-wise, it will closely resemble the Tiguan R-Line sold internationally but will feature a longer body to accommodate a third row of seats. The equipment list is expected to mirror the Tiguan R-Line, offering a comprehensive set of premium features.
Volkswagen Taigun Facelift (Expected launch: Q3 2026)
Estimated price: Rs 12 lakh to Rs 19 lakh
Engines: 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol
The Volkswagen Taigun is due for its first major update since its launch, and the facelift is expected to arrive in the second half of 2026. Test mules have already been spotted, indicating subtle exterior changes rather than a full redesign. Expect refreshed bumpers, revised lighting elements and new alloy wheel designs.
Under the hood, the Taigun will continue with the existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines. However, a key mechanical update could be the introduction of a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre variant, replacing the current 6-speed automatic. Feature upgrades are likely to include a panoramic sunroof and the addition of ADAS, bringing the Taigun closer in line with newer rivals.
Volkswagen Virtus Facelift (Expected launch: Q4 2026)
Estimated price: Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh
Engines: 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol
Following the Taigun, Volkswagen will roll out a facelifted version of the Virtus sedan towards the end of 2026. The updates are expected to focus on refreshed front and rear styling, along with newly designed alloy wheels. Inside, the Virtus will share much of its cabin layout and features with the updated Taigun.
Volkswagen is also expected to introduce ADAS with the Virtus facelift. Engine options will remain unchanged, with the 1.5-litre TSI continuing with manual and 7-speed DSG gearbox options. Similar to the Taigun, the existing 6-speed automatic paired with the 1.0-litre TSI could be replaced by a new, localised 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
