Production of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door Will Start in April

Maruti Suzuki showed off the long-awaited 5-door Jimny at Auto Expo 2023 on January 12, and it will go on sale in May of this year. The famous SUV is already being reserved, and we now know more about how Maruti will make and give out its sub-four-meter off-roader before it comes out.

Maruti wants to make around 1 lakh cars

Sources tell us that Maruti will start making the Jimny in April and hopes to make around 1 lakh units per year. Maruti will sell around 66 percent of these cars in India, and the rest will go to other countries. Maruti Suzuki wants to make about 7,000 units for the Indian market every month.

Maruti Suzuki has already gotten over 18,000 orders for the Jimny, which shows how popular it is. The Jimny comes in four different versions, and it is likely that Maruti Suzuki will focus on making the top-of-the-line Alpha trim.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny: powertrain and off-road gear

The Jimny is powered by a 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine with 105 hp and either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. For off-roading, the Jimny has Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with “2WD-high,” “4WD-high,” and “4WD-low” modes. The Jimny is also built on a rugged ladder-frame chassis.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny: versions and features

The Jimny only comes in two trims: Zeta and Alpha. The Alpha trim has all the bells and whistles, like auto headlamps, SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, and Arkayms sound system. However, Maruti Suzuki comes with safety features like six airbags and hill-hold assist as standard. You can read a detailed list of features here.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny: estimated price and launch date

Maruti is likely to sell the Jimny for around Rs 12 lakh, and it is likely to go on sale in May 2023. At launch, it won’t have any direct competitors, but Mahindra and Force are both working on 5-door versions of the Thar and the Gurkha, respectively.

The electric Jimny is coming in 2026

Suzuki is working on an all-electric Jimny, which will be sold first in Europe as a three-door model. A five-door Jimny EV will come next, and it will be made in India. There aren’t many more details, but Maruti Suzuki could use the 60kWh battery pack that was used in the eVX concept, which was also shown at Auto Expo 2023.
