Mahindra’s Ambitious SUV Launch Plans by 2030

Mahindra has unveiled an ambitious plan to launch a total of 16 new SUVs by 2030. This lineup includes nine new internal combustion engine (ICE) powered SUVs and seven born-electric vehicles (BEVs), demonstrating the brand’s commitment to catering to diverse market demands.

Nine New Mahindra ICE SUVs

Despite a significant investment in electric vehicles, Mahindra continues to focus on its core market of internal combustion engine-powered SUVs. The brand has announced plans to launch nine new ICE SUVs, including three mid-cycle updates and six all-new models.

Upcoming Models and Updates

  1. Thar 5-door (Thar Armada) One of the first new models to hit the market will be the much-anticipated Thar 5-door, which is expected to be named Thar Armada. This SUV will share its platform and powertrains with the Scorpio N and the Thar 3-door, potentially offering three engine options.
  2. Scorpio Pickup Following its debut as a concept, the Scorpio Pickup is anticipated to launch in South Africa first before making its way to other international markets and India.
  3. All-New Bolero (U171 Platform) Mahindra is developing a new U171 platform that will give rise to a completely new Bolero SUV, as well as a seven-seat derivative. This platform will also support a variety of other SUV body styles and pickups.
  4. Mid-Cycle Refreshes Mahindra is expected to refresh the XUV700 and the Scorpio N. The XUV700, initially launched in August 2021, and the Scorpio N, released in June 2022, are likely candidates for these updates. The recent trademark of XUV 7XO suggests a potential rebranding of the XUV700 facelift. Additional trademarks like XUV 1XO and XUV 5XO hint at new models, although details remain sparse.

Seven New Mahindra BEVs

Mahindra is equally committed to its future electric vehicle lineup, planning to introduce seven new BEVs by 2030. These vehicles will be built on the INGLO platform, with the first models expected to be released by the end of this year or early next year.

Key Electric Models

  1. Initial Electric Releases The Mahindra XUV.e8, the XUV.e9 coupe, and the BE.05 SUV are among the first electric vehicles expected to launch from the born-EV lineup.
  2. Thar EV An electric version of the popular Thar is also in the works, having been previewed as a concept last year.

Battery and Performance Specifications

Mahindra’s upcoming electric SUVs will feature battery capacities ranging from 60 to 80 kWh, supporting fast charging up to 175 kW. This capability will allow the battery to reach 80 percent charge in under 30 minutes, depending on the model. The 80 kWh battery variants are expected to offer a driving range of approximately 435 to 450 kilometers under the WLTP cycle. Additionally, the new electric SUVs will be available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.

Conclusion

Mahindra’s extensive plan to launch 16 new SUVs by 2030 reflects its strategic approach to balancing traditional ICE models with innovative electric vehicles. This dual focus ensures that Mahindra remains a dominant player in the rapidly evolving automotive market, catering to a wide range of consumer preferences and regulatory requirements.
