BYD India is set to unveil the prices for the new eMax 7 electric MPV on October 8, with deliveries likely to commence before Diwali, according to dealer sources. The eMax 7 is a significant update of the e6 MPV, now offering three-row seating along with enhanced features and technology.
Targeting a Broader Audience
The BYD eMax 7 will be available in both six- and seven-seat configurations, aiming to attract a wider range of customers. While the additional seating reduces cargo space compared to the current e6, the upgraded leatherette upholstery gives the eMax 7 a more premium feel.
Interior Upgrades
The eMax 7’s cabin boasts a host of enhancements, including a fixed panoramic glass roof, an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), and a redesigned center console with faux wood and aluminum accents. The dashboard will also feature more premium materials, such as soft-touch surfaces and upgraded switchgear.
Battery and Range Options
Internationally, the BYD eMax 7 offers two battery configurations: a 55.4kWh pack with a claimed range of 420 km and a 71.8kWh pack with a range of 530 km. In India, the eMax 7 is expected to feature the same 71.8kWh battery that currently powers the e6. It remains unclear whether the smaller battery option will be offered. Power outputs vary depending on the battery: 163hp for the smaller pack and 204hp for the larger one, with both versions producing 310Nm of torque.
Competing with Toyota Innova Hycross
BYD intends to position the eMax 7 as a direct competitor to the Toyota Innova Hycross. Both MPVs offer similar equipment levels and seating configurations, but the eMax 7 distinguishes itself with its fully electric powertrain. The Toyota Innova Hycross, by contrast, uses a petrol-hybrid setup. The eMax 7 is also expected to outshine the Innova Hycross with its cutting-edge 12.8-inch rotating infotainment screen, a BYD signature feature.
Pricing and Availability
The BYD eMax 7 is anticipated to carry a price tag of around Rs 30 lakh to Rs 33 lakh (ex-showroom), which places it in close competition with the Toyota Innova Hycross, whose top-spec ZX(O) hybrid variant is priced at Rs 30.98 lakh. Despite the upgrades, the eMax 7 is not expected to see a significant price hike over the outgoing e6, which was priced at Rs 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
