Kawasaki has introduced the latest iteration of its mid-range neo-retro bike, the Z650RS. While maintaining its mechanical integrity, the new Z650RS now boasts a standard two-level traction control system. With this update, the bike sees a modest price increase of Rs 7,000 compared to its predecessor.
Design and Engine
Retaining its signature modern-classic aesthetics, the Kawasaki Z650RS features a distinctive shortened tail section and eye-catching spoke-wheel inspired alloys. Embracing a neo-retro vibe, it sports all-LED lighting, including a round headlamp and a horizontally swept tail lamp. Underneath its timeless exterior lies the same potent 649cc parallel-twin engine, delivering 68hp and 64Nm torque. While the trellis main frame is borrowed from the Z650, the subframe has been meticulously reworked to enhance the overall riding experience.
Performance and Features
The Z650RS boasts a telescopic fork and a monoshock for responsive suspension, complemented by dual 286mm discs at the front and a single 172mm disc at the rear for efficient braking. Despite its accessible 800mm seat height, the bike’s ground clearance is a modest 125mm. Noteworthy features include a twin-pod instrumentation with an integrated LCD screen and the newly introduced two levels of traction control. The first level caters to spirited riding, while the second offers enhanced intervention, particularly in adverse weather conditions.
Competition and Conclusion
In the market segment, the Kawasaki Z650RS competes with the Triumph Trident 660, priced significantly higher at Rs 8.12 lakh. Although the Trident boasts an extra cylinder and additional enhancements, the Z650RS presents itself as a compelling option for riders seeking a blend of classic style and modern performance at a more accessible price point.
