Mercedes-AMG CLE Coupe Has Gone Into Production

Mercedes-AMG has officially started production on the highly anticipated 2024 CLE 53, a 2-door coupe designed to seamlessly bridge the gap between the C-Class and E-Class vehicles. Under the hood, the CLE 53 boasts a potent 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, featuring a turbocharger and an electric auxiliary compressor. This dynamic combination allows for constant boost, with the capability to spike to 22 psi for brief bursts.

The engine produces a robust 443 horsepower and a torque rating of 413 lb-ft. For a burst of extra power, drivers can request an additional 30 lb-ft of torque for 12 seconds. The CLE 53 is also equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, featuring an integrated starter generator located in the bell housing of the 9-speed transmission. This system not only provides an extra 23 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque for low-speed driving but also aids in energy recuperation and ensures a seamless start-stop system.

Drift Mode and AWD Dynamics

Despite being an all-wheel-drive vehicle, the CLE 53 showcases its AMG prowess by offering a Drift Mode, allowing drivers to transform it into a rear-wheel-drive performance machine. The variable AWD system automatically adjusts to provide the right balance of rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, catering to both grip-seeking and tire-shredding enthusiasts.

The inclusion of rear-axle steering as a standard feature enhances maneuverability, offering tight turning circles at low speeds and smooth lane changes at higher speeds. Braking is robust with 14.6-inch front brakes featuring 4-piston calipers and 14.2-inch rear rotors with a single-piston setup. The car comes standard with 19-inch wheels, with an option to upgrade to 20-inch wheels.

Aggressive Design and Luxurious Interior

Visually, the CLE 53 stands out with its aggressive front fascia, twin power domes, and a distinctive shark-nose grille. The cabin boasts a 12.3-inch digital driver display and an 11.9-inch center display. The seats, trimmed in MB-Tex and microfiber, feature red contrast stitching. Buyers can opt for Nappa leather seats, and an even more aggressive AMG Performance Seat with enhanced bolstering is available as an option.

Impressive Speed and Comfort

The CLE 53 is not just about power; it also promises an exhilarating driving experience. Mercedes claims a 0-60 mph time of four seconds, though enthusiasts believe it might be even quicker. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. While it may not replicate the iconic sound of the old C 63 AMG, the CLE 53 is poised to outperform its predecessor on the racetrack and provide superior comfort for daily driving.

For those craving even more power, Mercedes hints at the imminent arrival of the 671-hp C 63, promising an exciting addition to the AMG lineup.
