The all-electric Tata Harrier EV has achieved a full 5-star safety rating in the latest crash tests conducted by Bharat NCAP, reinforcing Tata Motors’ commitment to passenger safety. The electric SUV excelled with a perfect score of 32 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and an impressive 45 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP).
Top-Class Safety Scores Match the XEV 9e
The Harrier EV’s safety scores mirror those of its primary competitor, the Mahindra XUV.e9 (marketed as XEV 9e in some contexts), which also boasts full marks in adult protection. Both SUVs received a satisfactory ‘OK’ rating in the side pole impact test, a challenging scenario that often reveals structural weaknesses.
Standard Safety Equipment Across the Range
Bharat NCAP evaluated the top-spec Empowered 75 and Empowered 75 AWD trims, but the 5-star rating is valid across the entire Harrier EV lineup. Safety equipment offered as standard includes:
-
Six airbags (seven on Fearless and Empowered trims)
-
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
-
ISOFIX mounts on rear outboard seats
-
3-point seatbelts with reminders for all seating positions
-
Passenger airbag deactivation switch
-
Compliance with AIS-100 pedestrian safety norms
Higher variants like the Empowered trims also come equipped with a full ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite.
Outstanding Adult Occupant Protection
With a flawless 32/32 score in AOP, the Harrier EV becomes only the second SUV tested by Bharat NCAP to reach this benchmark—sharing the honor with the Mahindra XEV 9e. Both front crash test dummies showed ‘Good’ protection ratings across all critical body areas, an achievement rarely seen in NCAP assessments.
Comprehensive Child Safety
In the Child Occupant Protection category, the Harrier EV scored 45 out of 49, once again matching the XEV 9e. This includes:
-
24/24 in dynamic crash testing
-
12/12 in CRS (Child Restraint System) installation evaluation
-
9/13 in vehicle-based safety assessments
Tests involved rearward-facing child seats for 18-month and 3-year-old dummies, mounted in the front passenger seat using ISOFIX anchors and a support leg. While ISOFIX is standard on rear outboard seats, the EV lacks an integrated child seat system, which is becoming more common in premium models.
Harrier Lineup: Consistently Safe
It’s worth noting that the ICE-powered Tata Harrier has also achieved a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, albeit with slightly lower scores: 30.08/32 (AOP) and 44.54/49 (COP). The Harrier EV now joins Tata’s growing list of safe vehicles—becoming the eighth model from the brand to receive Bharat NCAP’s top rating.
