Volvo is gearing up to unveil the all-new EX60 electric SUV in 2026, marking a significant step in the brand’s shift towards electrification. According to Autocar UK, the EX60 will be the first model to be built on Volvo’s entirely new and highly scalable platform, featuring cutting-edge computing technology.
A Key Player in Volvo’s Electric Transformation
The EX60 is poised to be a cornerstone in Volvo’s electric vehicle lineup, serving as the zero-emission counterpart to the popular XC60, which has been a best-seller for the Swedish automaker. While Volvo has confirmed the name of the new SUV, further details remain under wraps. The EX60 is expected to be similar in size to the XC60 but will incorporate design elements from the smaller EX30 and the recently refreshed XC90.
Advanced Technology and Cost-Efficient Production
The EX60 will ride on the new SPA3 architecture, an evolution of the SPA2 platform used by the EX90 flagship. This new architecture will integrate Volvo Cars’ Superset technology stack, which combines both hardware and software to manage vehicle functions. Notably, the EX60 will be the first Volvo model to employ mega casting—a manufacturing process that creates large sections of the vehicle as single pieces, rather than assembling multiple components. This innovative approach, alongside the modular nature of SPA3, is expected to reduce production costs significantly.
Volvo’s Expanding EV Portfolio
Currently, Volvo offers the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge in India, but the EX line-up of electric SUVs has yet to be introduced. The debut of the EX60 will not only expand Volvo’s EV offerings but also reinforce its commitment to a fully electric future.
