JSW MG Motor India has officially announced the launch of a new premium retail channel, dubbed MG Select, dedicated to its high-end offerings. While the company has yet to reveal the specific models that will be sold through this new channel, Gaurav Gupta, MG India’s Chief Growth Officer, confirmed in an interview with Autocar India that they plan to hit the market with their first product and facilities by Q1 2025.
What to Expect from MG Select?
The MG Select retail channel will focus on NEVs (New Energy Vehicles), including hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and electric vehicles (EVs). Over the next two years, MG intends to introduce four new models under this channel, all of which will be locally assembled in India.
Initially, MG plans to establish 12 Select Experience Centres across key cities in the country, with plans to expand into Tier 2 markets in subsequent phases.
Gupta emphasized that the Select channel will operate separately from MG’s mainstream brand and its existing retail network, offering distinct entry-level luxury models without overlap. Each Select facility will be a standalone experience center, complete with dedicated workshops.
“We aim to make a statement in the entry-luxury segment,” said Gupta. “There’s a tremendous opportunity to bring something fresh to the table, and we’re confident that with the right mix of products, pricing, and customer experience, we can capture that market.”
MG Cyberster Likely to Feature in the MG Select Lineup
Among the anticipated models, the MG Cyberster, MG’s first all-electric sports car, is a strong candidate for the Select lineup. Gupta hinted that the Cyberster has been shortlisted for the channel, though final confirmation is still pending.
Already available in international markets, the Cyberster offers two configurations: an entry-level model with a rear-mounted 308hp motor, a 64kWh battery, and a claimed range of 520 km, and a high-performance variant with dual motors generating 544hp and 725Nm of torque, supported by a 77kWh battery and a CLTC-rated range of 580 km.
If launched in India, the Cyberster would compete with electric models like the BYD Seal, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.
With the MG Select initiative, MG Motor India aims to carve out a distinct niche in the growing premium EV market while offering customers a unique blend of luxury, technology, and sustainability.
