MG Motor India to Launch Gloster Facelift and Cloud EV by End-2024

MG Motor India is gearing up for two exciting launches in 2024, marking the brand’s return to the market with fresh offerings after over a year. With a recent capital boost from JSW, MG plans to roll out new models every three to six months, starting in the second half of 2024. The upcoming launches include the MG Gloster facelift and the all-new Cloud EV, both of which have been spotted testing on Indian roads. Here’s a detailed look at what to expect from these two new models.

MG Gloster Facelift

Introduced in 2020, the MG Gloster is set for a significant mid-life update. The facelifted version will closely follow the Maxus D90, which is already available in markets like Australia. The revamped Gloster will feature an all-new exterior and interior design while maintaining the existing mechanical setup.

The exterior will boast a new hexagonal grille with red accents, a split headlamp arrangement, pronounced wheel arches, and rugged cladding. The rear will be updated with new LED tail-lights connected by a light band and a redesigned bumper. The facelift is also expected to include new 18-inch alloy wheels and additional chrome elements for the India-specific model.

Inside, the Gloster facelift will come with a refreshed dashboard, a larger touchscreen, redesigned AC vents, and an updated center console with revised switchgear. It will continue to be powered by the 2.0-litre diesel engine, available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations.

MG Cloud EV

The Cloud EV, currently sold as the Wuling brand in Indonesia and Baojun Yunduo in China, will be rebranded as an MG for the Indian market. Measuring about 4.3 meters in length with a 2,700mm wheelbase, the Cloud EV resembles a cross between a large hatchback and an MPV. Despite its MPV-like stance, it will only offer two rows of seating for five occupants.

As a dedicated electric vehicle, the Cloud EV will offer spacious interiors with a minimalist dashboard, a large floating touchscreen, and front seats that can fully recline to a “sofa mode” with a 135-degree backseat recline.

Internationally, the Cloud EV is available with two battery options: a 37.9kWh battery offering 360km of range and a 50.6kWh battery providing 460km of range. Both versions are powered by a front-axle mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 134hp. It remains to be seen which variants will be introduced in India.

Launch Timeline and Expected Pricing

While exact launch dates are yet to be confirmed, the new model introductions are slated to begin in the latter half of 2024, with one expected around the festive season and the other by year-end. The Gloster facelift is likely to see a price increase from its current range of Rs 38.80 lakh to Rs 43.87 lakh (ex-showroom). The Cloud EV, benefiting from high levels of localization, is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh in India.

MG’s upcoming product launches promise to bring exciting new options to the Indian automotive market, combining fresh designs and advanced features with competitive pricing.
