Mahindra is set to launch the all-electric XUV 3XO EV, internally codenamed S240, by the end of this year. Initially scheduled for a mid-2024 release, the launch was delayed, but Autocar India confirms that series production will commence by November 2024. This new electric SUV is based on the previous XUV300, now known as the XUV 3XO, and will be positioned below the XUV400 EV.
Key Features of the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV
- Battery: Equipped with a 34.5kWh battery, the same as the lower-spec variants of the XUV400 EV.
- Design: Expected to retain the dimensions and styling of its ICE counterpart, with some EV-specific design elements.
- Interior: Features and equipment will largely be carried over from the standard XUV 3XO.
Production and Launch Plans
Mahindra plans to produce 1,500-1,800 units of the XUV 3XO EV per month, aiming for a total of approximately 12,000 units across all fuel types, including petrol, diesel, and electric. This production target reflects a cautious approach, likely due to the slow uptake of EVs, as evidenced by the XUV400 EV’s modest sales performance despite multiple updates.
Pricing and Market Position
Mahindra aims to price the XUV 3XO EV aggressively, with prices starting at Rs 15 lakh and going up to Rs 17 lakh. This pricing strategy makes it about Rs 2 lakh more affordable than the top-end XUV400 EV. With this competitive pricing, Mahindra hopes to challenge the Tata Nexon EV and capture a larger share of the EV market.
As reported in the Confidential section of the July 2024 issue of Autocar India, Mahindra is poised to make a significant impact with the XUV 3XO EV by offering a well-equipped, competitively priced electric SUV.
