Mahindra Scorpio N Makes Its Way to Australia Without ADAS, But with Plans for Future Compliance

The Mahindra Scorpio N has finally made its way to Australia after a long wait. However, the SUV lacked Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), which is a mandatory requirement for all new cars registered with the authorities from March 2023 onwards. Nevertheless, Mahindra managed to register the SUV before this rule was implemented, allowing it to bring the vehicle to the continent without ADAS.

This escape clause, however, is only temporary, as all new cars in Australia reportedly need to have ADAS as standard. Thus, Mahindra will be offering the Scorpio N with ADAS features in Australia, as confirmed by a top-level executive to local media. Any new cars going on sale from 2025 onwards in Australia must have ADAS as mandatory, so Mahindra has no choice but to comply.

It remains to be seen if Mahindra will offer the full suite of ADAS in Australia, but the SUV will be fitted with Autonomous Emergency Braking as that is a mandate. It is hoped that Mahindra offers the full suite of ADAS as it does in the XUV700.

The question now is whether these ADAS features will be offered in the India-spec model. There has been no mention of this yet from Mahindra. However, it is hoped that the SUV marque offers these features in India, considering that models such as the MG Astor, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Verna, and Honda City all offer this safety tech.

Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio N comes equipped with safety features such as six airbags, electronic stability control, a front and rear camera (but not 360-degree), parking sensors, hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The SUV has also scored a full five stars in the Global NCAP safety tests.

In conclusion, while the Mahindra Scorpio N has finally made its way to Australia, it is lacking ADAS, which is a mandatory requirement for all new cars registered with the authorities from March 2023 onwards. However, Mahindra has managed to register the SUV before this rule was implemented, allowing it to bring the vehicle to the continent without ADAS.

As for the India-spec model, there has been no mention of whether the SUV marque will offer these features, but it is hoped that it does. Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio N comes equipped with several safety features and has scored a full five stars in the Global NCAP safety tests.
