Honda SP160 vs Honda Unicorn – Differences Explained

Honda has recently unveiled its latest addition to the commuter motorcycle segment – the SP160. This model takes a sportier approach compared to the established Honda Unicorn. To delve into the finer points of distinction, let’s examine the details:

Design:

In terms of design philosophy, the Unicorn maintains its classic commuter-oriented aesthetics, characterized by its clean lines and simplicity. In contrast, the SP160, positioned as a sporty commuter, presents a muscular tank design adorned with extended panels, more pronounced lines on the sides and rear, and a beefier headlight cowl. Notably, the motorcycle features an M-shaped tail light and other design elements that contribute to a bolder and dynamically appealing appearance. The SP160’s resemblance to the larger and muscular Honda SP125 adds an element of familiarity.

Engine:

Both motorcycles are powered by a 162.71cc, single-cylinder, BS6.2-compliant engine. This counterbalanced engine delivers 13.4PS of power and 14.58Nm of torque, matched with a 5-speed gearbox.

Underpinnings:

The shared foundation includes a diamond frame, telescopic fork, and monoshock suspension. However, the SP160 introduces an upgrade with a larger 276mm petal disc brake at the front, while the Unicorn features a conventional 240mm disc. The Single Disc Unicorn variant retains the 130mm rear drum brake, whereas the Double Disc variant adopts a 220mm unit at the rear. Additionally, the SP160 stands on larger 18-inch wheels, as opposed to the Unicorn’s 17-inch units. While both bikes sport an 80-section front tire, the SP160 boasts a broader 130-section rear tire, in contrast to the Unicorn’s 100-section.

Features:

On the features front, both motorcycles come standard with single-channel ABS. Distinguishing itself, the SP160 showcases a fully digital LCD instrument console, while the Unicorn houses a triple-pod analogue unit. While the information displayed is largely consistent across both models, the SP160 offers supplementary data such as mileage, gear position, and clock readings.

There are not many differences between the dimensions and specifications of both motorcycles.
