The recall has been listed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Harley-Davidson Bikes Included in the Recall
The affected motorcycles are select models from the Softail family, including:
- Heritage Classic
- Street Bob
- Low Rider S
- Low Rider ST
These motorcycles are among Harley-Davidson’s most popular cruiser offerings in global markets.
What Is the Rear Brake Issue?
According to the safety notice, the rear brake line may come into contact with the Body Control Module (BCM). Over time, friction between the components could wear down the brake line.
If the line becomes damaged, it may cause a brake fluid leak, which can reduce or completely eliminate rear braking ability.
A loss of rear brake performance can significantly impact rider safety, especially during sudden stops or emergency braking situations.
Harley-Davidson Fix for Owners
To resolve the issue, authorized Harley-Davidson dealerships in the US will:
- Replace the BCM and related mounting hardware
- Inspect the rear brake line for wear or damage
- Replace the brake line and affected parts if required
All repairs linked to this recall will be completed at no cost to owners.
When Will Owners Be Contacted?
Harley-Davidson is expected to begin notifying affected motorcycle owners in the United States from May 18.
Will This Recall Affect Harley-Davidson Bikes in India?
