BMW i5 Launched at Rs 1.20 Crore

BMW India has introduced the i5 electric sedan to the Indian market, priced at Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom). The i5 arrives in India through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route and is available exclusively in the high-spec M60 xDrive variant. This model fits between BMW’s i4 (priced at Rs 72.5 lakh) and i7 (ranging from Rs 2.03 crore to 2.5 crore) in the electric vehicle lineup. With the addition of the i5, BMW’s electric vehicle offerings in India expand to five models, including the iX1, iX xDrive50, i4, and i7.

BMW i5 Overview

The BMW i5 in M60 xDrive trim features an 83.9kWh (81.2kWh usable) battery pack, providing a WLTP-certified range of 516km on a single charge. Its powertrain comprises two electric motors—one on each axle—delivering a combined output of 601hp and 795Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100kph takes just 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 230kph. The i5 comes equipped with a complimentary 11kW wall charger and offers an optional 22kW AC charger. Additionally, BMW highlights its 205kW DC charging capability, allowing a 10-80 percent charge in under 30 minutes.

Exterior and Color Options

In its M60 guise for India, the BMW i5 showcases sportier design elements compared to the standard version. Notably, the front features the classic kidney grille with illumination and a blanked-off design in high-gloss black plastic. The vehicle boasts slim headlights with vertically stacked LED DRLs, an aggressive bumper with larger intakes, flush-fitting door handles, side skirts, and 20-inch alloy wheels. The rear design mirrors that of the new 7 Series, featuring thin LED tail-lamps with chrome separators.

Color choices for the Indian market include non-metallic Alpine White and various metallic shades such as M Brooklyn Grey, M Carbon Black, Cape York Green, Phytonic Blue, Black Sapphire, Sophiosto Grey, Oxide Grey, and Mineral White.

Interior Features

Inside, the BMW i5 offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen running BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 OS. This system introduces gaming and video functionalities for the first time. The center console features a physical controller, similar to what’s found in the i7, along with a 15-color ambient lighting system. The M60 variant comes with carbon fiber trim on the dashboard (with an optional dark silver accent and wood trim), performance-oriented displays, and a flat-bottom M leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Standard interior amenities include sports seats (available in Venganza or Alcantara) with active cooling, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, panoramic sunroof, 4-zone climate control, and a 360-degree camera.

Warranty and After-Sales

BMW India offers a standard 2-year/unlimited kilometer warranty for the i5, along with an 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty specifically for the battery.

In summary, the BMW i5 enters the Indian electric vehicle market as a premium offering, combining cutting-edge technology with sporty aesthetics and advanced performance characteristics.
