Renault has unveiled its version of the all-new Duster SUV, which was initially showcased under the Dacia brand late last year. While maintaining the essence of its Dacia counterpart, the Renault-badged Duster boasts subtle styling tweaks, as depicted in the official images.
What Sets Apart the New Renault Duster?
The most noticeable change is the front grille, now adorned with Renault lettering instead of the traditional logo, a feature mirrored throughout the vehicle by replacing all Dacia logos with Renault insignia. Moreover, slight alterations are evident in the interior upholstery.
Platform, Dimensions, and Design
Built on the CMF-B platform, the new Renault Duster stands at 4.34 meters long, slightly surpassing its predecessor in length while embracing a more aggressive appearance. It’s worth noting that a seven-seater variant, akin to the Dacia Bigster concept, is in the pipeline for future release. With a wheelbase of 2,657mm, the Duster boasts a marginally shorter stance compared to its predecessor.
Retaining the signature slim Y-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps and vertical air vents, the Renault Duster exudes a robust aura. It features a large lower grille area resembling a flattened bull bar and 18-inch alloy wheels with a simplified design. The rear mirrors the front with Y-shaped tail-lights and a bumper design akin to the Dacia Duster.
Interior Enhancements
While the double-layer dashboard remains consistent, Renault infuses its touch with unique finishing and upholstery. Higher trim levels will sport a 7.0-inch driver information screen and a 10.1-inch touchscreen for infotainment. Although similar in size to its Dacia counterpart, the Renault Duster boasts distinctive fonts and color themes for its menus.
Both Duster variants share an array of features, including wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, and an Arkamys 3D sound system with six speakers. Moreover, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, and lane change warning are incorporated.
Powertrain Specifications
While specifics on engine options remain undisclosed, the Renault Duster is anticipated to offer similar configurations as its Dacia counterpart, including electrified options. Notably, a 1.6-liter petrol-hybrid with two electric motors and a 130hp, 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine coupled with a 48V starter motor are expected.
Off-Road Capabilities
The Duster boasts terrain modes like Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-road, and Eco, catering to diverse driving conditions. With 217mm ground clearance and impressive approach and departure angles, it ensures adept performance off the beaten path.
Expected Launch in India
With an investment of approximately Rs 4,000 crore by the Renault-Nissan group, the new Duster is slated for release in the latter half of 2025 in India. Positioned to compete with popular models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, it signifies Renault’s resurgence in the competitive SUV market. Additionally, Nissan is expected to introduce its own derivative of the midsize SUVs later on.
