Ford India is reigniting excitement in the automotive market with the anticipated return of the Endeavour in 2025. Sparked by recent developments, including a patent filing in India for the Endeavour and reconsideration of the sale of its Chennai plant, Ford seems to be making a strategic comeback following its 2021 market exit.
The Endeavour’s Anticipated Arrival: Sooner Than Expected?
Originally scheduled for local assembly in Ford’s Chennai factory by 2025, there’s buzzing speculation about an earlier introduction. Ford is contemplating directly importing the current Endeavour model, leveraging the allowance for importing up to 2,500 fully-built units annually without homologation. This move could position the Endeavour competitively against its rival, the Toyota Fortuner, especially with the latter’s soaring prices.
Ford’s Continued Commitment in India
Despite selling one of its plants to Tata Motors and nearly offloading the Chennai facility, Ford’s decision to retain the latter indicates a strong commitment to the Indian market. The Chennai plant’s existing infrastructure, previously used for assembling the older Endeavour model, simplifies the transition to producing the new generation.
