One of the key advantages of scooters—especially electric ones—is their practicality, and a big part of that comes down to underseat storage. With electric drivetrains allowing for more compact packaging, manufacturers have been able to liberate a lot more space beneath the seat.
For perspective, the widely popular Honda Activa offers 18 litres of underseat storage. In comparison, several electric scooters offer significantly more room. Here’s a list of the top five electric scooters in India with the biggest storage compartments.
5. TVS iQube – Up to 32 Litres
Earlier versions of the TVS iQube offered only 17 litres of storage. However, with recent updates, most variants now come with a much more usable 32-litre boot (the base 2.2kWh variant has 30 litres). This makes the iQube not only tech-savvy and efficient but also very practical. Plus, recent price cuts of up to ₹26,000 make it even more appealing.
4. Ola S1 (Gen 3) – 34 Litres
Ola’s Gen 3 platform carries forward the 34-litre boot seen on its Gen 2 models. While this is a slight reduction from the 36 litres offered in the original Gen 1 S1 scooters, it’s still among the largest in the segment. The flat and wide boot is suitable for daily essentials, though fitting a full-face helmet may be tricky.
3. Ather Rizta – 34 Litres (Deeper Design)
While the Ather Rizta also offers 34 litres of storage like the Ola S1, its design gives it the edge. The boot is deeper, making it easier to accommodate a full-face helmet. Ather has also added a clever cubbyhole behind the main compartment, ideal for smaller items like a phone or wallet—further boosting its practicality.
2. Bajaj Chetak – 35 Litres
With the launch of the new Chetak 3001, Bajaj has extended the generous 35-litre storage to the entire Chetak lineup, including higher-end variants like the 3501, 3502, and 3503. This update makes the Chetak one of the most spacious electric scooters in its class. While the variant names might seem confusing, they all now share this excellent storage capacity.
1. River Indie – 43 Litres
Topping the list by a significant margin is the River Indie, with an enormous 43-litre underseat boot. This is the largest in the Indian market and is unmatched in terms of pure volume. The scooter is designed with practicality in mind, and you can even add optional panniers and a top box to expand the carrying capacity further.
Honourable Mention: Simple One – 30 Litres
While the Simple One doesn’t make the top five, its 30-litre boot still deserves a nod. It was once among the segment leaders in storage space, but recent updates to rivals have edged it out. That said, it remains a capable option for those looking for a large, usable boot in a lesser-known package.
