Audi Unveils the New Q5 Sportback: Enhanced Design, Tech, and Powertrain Options

Audi has introduced the latest iteration of the Q5 Sportback, a sleek coupe-SUV variant of its popular Q5 model. With updates in design, technology, and performance, the new Q5 Sportback aims to elevate the driving experience while retaining its signature appeal.

Distinctive Exterior with Coupe-Like Elegance

At first glance, the Q5 Sportback shares its front-end styling with the standard Q5. However, the similarities fade as you move to the rear, where the Sportback showcases its unique sloping roofline and aerodynamic coupe-inspired silhouette. Key highlights include a pronounced spoiler, full-width OLED tail-lights, and a two-tone rear bumper with a contrasting silver accent, emphasizing its sporty character.

Modernized Interior with High-Tech Features

Inside, the Q5 Sportback introduces a revamped cabin that feels more contemporary and luxurious. Offered in three trims—Sport, S Line, and Quattro—the SUV caters to varying preferences. Higher trims feature Audi’s innovative ‘Digital Stage,’ combining an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster with a massive 14.5-inch OLED infotainment display. For added convenience, a 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger is available as an optional feature.

Upgraded Platform and Enhanced Ride Quality

Built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture, which also underpins the A5 sedan and standard Q5, the new Sportback benefits from a more advanced chassis. The setup includes new steel springs and passive dampers for a smoother ride, with air suspension available as an optional upgrade.

Versatile Engine Options with Mild-Hybrid Technology

The Q5 Sportback offers a range of powertrain choices:

  • A 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 204hp and 340Nm, available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
  • A 2.0-liter diesel engine delivering 204hp and 400Nm, paired with Audi’s Quattro AWD system as standard.

Both engines are equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology, enhancing performance and efficiency by adding up to 24hp through regenerative energy stored in a 1.7kWh battery.

For enthusiasts, the top-spec SQ5 Sportback ditches diesel for a petrol-powered 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine, generating an impressive 362hp and 550Nm. This variant features Quattro AWD and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, ensuring a thrilling performance.

India Launch Prospects

While Audi India continues to offer the previous-gen Q5, the arrival of the new generation remains uncertain. Currently, the Q3 Sportback caters to fans of coupe-SUVs in the market. If Audi decides to introduce the Q5 Sportback in India, it will compete directly with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.

A Bold Step Forward

With its striking design, cutting-edge features, and improved drivability, the new Audi Q5 Sportback promises to be a compelling choice in the luxury coupe-SUV segment.
