Tata Motors has officially launched the much-awaited Sierra.ev, reviving one of India’s most iconic SUV nameplates as a fully electric vehicle. Positioned as the brand’s most advanced and aspirational SUV yet, the Sierra.ev combines the legendary Sierra design DNA with next-generation EV technology, a segment-first feature list, and a starting price that undercuts most rivals in the premium mid-SUV space. Bookings are open now, with deliveries beginning 15 July 2026.
This article breaks down everything you need to know about the new Tata Sierra.ev — price, battery and range options, performance, features, safety tech, colour choices, and what makes it stand out in India’s fast-growing electric SUV segment.
Tata Sierra.ev Price in India
The Sierra.ev is offered at an introductory ex-showroom starting price of ₹18.79 lakh, making it one of the most accessible electric SUVs in its class considering the technology on offer. The lineup is structured across six personas — Pure, Pure S, Adventure, Empowered, Empowered A, and Empowered A AWD — allowing buyers to pick a variant that matches their budget and feature requirements, from a well-equipped base trim to a fully loaded all-wheel-drive flagship.
Battery Options and Driving Range
The Sierra.ev is available with two battery pack choices:
Sierra.ev 63: A 63 kWh battery pack delivering a certified full-charge range of 535 km (MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 cycle), with a real-world C75 range of approximately 440–460 km. This pack powers the Pure, Pure S, Adventure, and Empowered personas with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout and 238 PS of motor output.
Sierra.ev 75: A larger 75 kWh battery pack offering a certified range of 665 km, translating to a real-world C75 range of 510–530 km — among the best in the segment. This variant is available in Adventure and Empowered personas with 209 PS RWD output.
Sierra.ev 75 QWD Dual Motor: The flagship variant pairs the 75 kWh battery with a dual-motor Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) setup, producing a combined 504 Nm of torque and a certified range of 624 km (480–500 km real-world C75 range). This is exclusive to the top-spec Empowered A AWD persona.
All battery packs feature liquid cooling and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, ensuring durability across India’s varied climate and road conditions.
Performance and Powertrain
The Sierra.ev’s flagship QWD Dual Motor variant is the performance headliner, capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds when Boost Mode is engaged — a figure that rivals performance hatchbacks and hot sedans, remarkable for a mid-size SUV. Gradeability stands at an impressive 52% on the QWD variant, while the single-motor versions offer 33-34% gradeability.
Driving modes include Eco, City, Sport, and Boost (on the QWD variant), while terrain management ranges from 4 modes (Normal, Wet, Rough, Custom) on the Adventure and Empowered trims to a full 6 terrain modes — Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud-Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl, and Custom — on the range-topping Empowered A AWD, complete with a dedicated Off-Road Assist function that lets the driver focus purely on steering while the vehicle manages throttle and braking at low speeds.
Charging Speed and Infrastructure
Fast charging is a strong suit for the Sierra.ev. The 63 kWh variant can charge from 20-80% State of Charge in approximately 25 minutes using a 110kW+ DC fast charger, while the 75 kWh variants take about 26 minutes on a 120kW+ charger. Tata Motors also claims the battery can add up to 250 km of range in just 15 minutes under optimal conditions.
The Sierra.ev supports the CCS2 charging standard along with a 7.2 kW AC wall box and 15A home socket option. It also comes equipped with bi-directional charging capability — Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) at 3.3 kVA for powering external devices, and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging at 5 kVA for compatible setups, useful for emergencies or outdoor activities.
Segment-First and Class-Leading Features
The Sierra.ev packs a long list of features that are firsts not just for the segment, but for the Indian car market as a whole:
India’s first vehicle with EV Route Planner for Android Auto — an intelligent navigation system that analyses the planned route and battery status in real time, predicts the battery percentage at destination, and proactively recommends charging stops to eliminate range anxiety on long drives.
India’s first in-car UPI payment ecosystem with DrivePay, allowing owners to pay for charging, FASTag, and even order food and beverages directly from the touchscreen or using voice commands.
India’s first car with Dolby Atmos through Apple CarPlay, paired with a 12-speaker JBL Black audio system featuring a central speaker, subwoofer, and SonicShaft soundbar for a concert-hall listening experience.
India’s first vehicle with AirConsole gaming, turning the centre touchscreen into a multiplayer gaming console with the smartphone acting as a wireless controller — ideal for charging stops and family road trips.
Beyond these firsts, the Sierra.ev also offers a Horizon View Triple Screen cockpit comprising a 12.3-inch (31.24 cm) infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch passenger display, and a 10.25-inch (26.03 cm) digital instrument cluster, along with a voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 6-way powered driver seat with memory function, and a 4-way powered co-driver seat — a segment-first for this price bracket.
Comfort highlights include the brand’s Ultra Glide Suspension with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD), which automatically adapts between a plush ride over broken roads and firm control at speed, along with a thigh support extender for the driver seat and a class-leading 622-litre boot space.
Safety and ADAS
Safety is anchored by Tata’s i-VBAC (Intelligent Vacuum-less Boost & Active Control) brake architecture and a 19-feature Electronic Stability Program covering rollover mitigation, hill descent and hold control, and traction control, available from the base Pure variant onward.
The top-spec Empowered A and Empowered A AWD trims step things up with Level 2+ ADAS featuring 22 key safety functions, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Centering, Autonomous Emergency Braking for pedestrians, cars, and cyclists, Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, and a 540-degree HD Surround View System with Transparent Mode. An Auto Park Assist suite with 16 features, including remote parking and a Remote Crank and Summon function, rounds out the convenience-focused safety tech.
Colours and Personas
The Tata Sierra.ev is offered in seven distinctive colour options: Pristine White, Pure Grey, Coorg Clouds, Bengal Rouge, Andaman Adventure, the all-new Rishikesh Rapids (debuting on the Empowered persona), and the exclusive Nainital Nocturne, reserved only for the top-of-the-line Empowered A QWD variant.
Warranty
Tata Motors backs the Sierra.ev with a Lifetime High-Voltage battery warranty (15 years for the first owner) and unlimited kilometres on both the 63 kWh and 75 kWh packs, alongside an 8-year/1,60,000 km motor warranty and a 3-year/1,25,000 km standard vehicle warranty — among the most comprehensive coverage packages in the Indian EV market.
Verdict
With its blend of real-world range, segment-first technology, genuine off-road capability via the QWD dual-motor system, and an aggressive starting price of ₹18.79 lakh, the Tata Sierra.ev positions itself as a serious challenger in India’s premium electric SUV space. It brings back a legendary nameplate while pushing the boundaries of what an electric SUV can offer at this price point — making it one of the most significant EV launches in India this year.
