Tata Punch is India’s bestselling car from January-July 2024

The Tata Punch has emerged as India’s best-selling car for the period from January to July 2024, surpassing the Maruti Wagon R and Hyundai Creta, which secured the second and third spots, respectively. A key factor behind the Punch’s success is its diverse range of powertrain options, including petrol, CNG, and electric variants.

Tata Punch’s Remarkable Sales Performance:

  • Units Sold: 1.26 lakh
  • Wagon R: 1.16 lakh (second place)
  • Creta: 1.08 lakh (third place)
  • Brezza: 1.04 lakh (fourth place)

According to data from JATO Dynamics India, Tata Motors sold around 1.26 lakh units of the Punch sub-compact SUV during this period. Notably, the electric and CNG variants accounted for 47% of the total sales. The Maruti Wagon R, which has been India’s top-selling car for three consecutive fiscal years, finished second with 1.16 lakh units sold. Although the Wagon R briefly overtook the Punch in sales during February and July, it was by a slim margin, particularly in July, where the difference was just 70 units.

Tata Punch vs Maruti Wagon R Sales in 2024:

Month (2024) Tata Punch Maruti Wagon R

The Hyundai Creta ranked third, with 1,08,698 units sold during the same period. It even became India’s best-selling car in July 2024, with 17,350 units sold. The Maruti Brezza followed closely, with 1,04,739 units sold between January and July 2024. Just behind the Brezza was the Maruti Ertiga, with a little over 1.04 lakh units sold during this timeframe.

The introduction of the fully electric version of the Punch in January 2024 significantly boosted its sales. Compared to the same period last year, when Tata Motors sold 79,136 units of the Punch, the company recorded a year-on-year growth of nearly 60%.

This remarkable achievement by the Tata Punch underscores its growing popularity in the competitive Indian automotive market.
