Tata Motors has announced the launch of the Tata.ev Mega Charger network, an initiative aimed at enhancing high-speed electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Partnering with four leading charging point operators—Tata Power, Zeon, Charge Zone, and Statiq—the company plans to establish 500 charging outlets within the next year.
Each Mega Charger hub will feature a combined output of 120kW, delivered either via a single four-gun charger or two 60kW dual-gun chargers. While the network is open to all EV brands, Tata EV owners will benefit from priority access and up to 25% lower charging rates.
Enhanced Charging Experience
Beyond fast charging, Tata Motors is focusing on user convenience. Mega Charger locations will offer restrooms, dining facilities, and 24/7 customer support at select sites. Customers will also benefit from a unified payment system, featuring a single mobile app, an integrated RFID-based payment solution, and access via Tata Motors’ iRA.ev app. A dedicated toll-free helpline will provide round-the-clock assistance.
Strengthening Charging Infrastructure
Under its ‘Open Collaboration 2.0’ initiative, Tata Motors aims to expand the charging network to over 4 lakh chargers within two years. This expansion includes 30,000 public charging points, with the rest comprising home and community chargers. The initiative builds on the company’s 2023 ‘Open Collaboration’ framework, which fostered partnerships with CPOs and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to accelerate EV infrastructure growth.
The Mega Chargers will be strategically located within cities and along major highways. According to Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors, the focus on urban hubs is driven by customer perceptions—many potential EV buyers hesitate due to concerns about insufficient public charging stations. The company aims to enhance visibility and accessibility for EV adoption.
Introducing Tata.ev Verified Chargers
To ensure quality and reliability, Tata Motors is rolling out a ‘Tata.ev Verified Charger’ rating system on its iRA.ev app. Users will rate charging stations on four key parameters: environment, accessibility, operational status, and compatibility with Tata EVs. Only locations with a 4-star rating or higher will receive the ‘.ev verified’ badge. The rating process will be a combination of crowd-sourced feedback and independent audits, ensuring transparency and service consistency.
Future Innovations
Tata Motors is also working on:
- UPI-based payment solutions for community charging, allowing payments through any UPI app.
- Doorstep mobile charging services, bringing convenient on-demand charging to users.
With these advancements, Tata Motors is setting a new benchmark in India’s EV charging ecosystem, making electric mobility more accessible, reliable, and seamless.
