Tata Curvv India Launch on August 7

Tata Motors has announced the launch of the Tata Curvv SUV-coupe in India on August 7. The Curvv will be India’s first mass-market SUV-coupe, positioned as an alternative to midsize SUVs.

Tata Curvv: Competitors and Powertrains

  • Rivals: The Curvv will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
  • Powertrain Options: It will offer petrol, diesel, and electric (EV) variants.

Exterior and Interior Design

The Tata Curvv draws its design inspiration from the Nexon, featuring Tata’s signature split-LED headlamp setup, extensive gloss-black cladding on the sides, a split tail-lamp configuration, and a distinctive coupe-like roofline. The EV and ICE models will be differentiated by unique bumpers and LED light signatures. Measuring 313mm longer than the Nexon and with a 62mm longer wheelbase, the Curvv promises a spacious interior.

Inside, the Curvv will borrow the four-spoke illuminated steering wheel from the Harrier and Safari. It will also feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The EV variant may include unique switchgear and additional features, similar to the differentiation between the Nexon EV and the regular Nexon. Other expected features include a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, connected car features, and a panoramic sunroof.

Powertrain Options

  • Petrol: The Curvv will be powered by a new 125hp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, available with both manual and automatic transmissions.
  • Diesel: Diesel variants will use the Nexon’s 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine.
  • Electric: The EV version will feature Tata’s Gen 2 acti.ev architecture, with an expected range of 450-500km.

Expected Pricing and Launch Timeline

Tata is expected to launch the Curvv EV first, with prices starting around Rs 20 lakh. This positions it above the Nexon EV and below the upcoming Harrier EV. The ICE variant will follow, priced around Rs 10-11 lakh. The Curvv EV will compete with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Maruti eVX, and MG ZS EV, while the ICE version will take on midsize SUVs such as the Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Hyundai Creta.
