Tata Altroz Facelift Teased Ahead of May 22 Launch

Tata Motors has officially teased the upcoming facelift of the Altroz premium hatchback, with a full unveiling and price announcement scheduled for May 22. While the Altroz has seen periodic updates since its launch in January 2020—mainly in terms of features and powertrain options—this will be its first major design refresh.

What’s New in the Altroz Facelift?

The teaser offers a glimpse of a sharper, more modern exterior. At the front, the Altroz facelift retains its split-headlamp layout but now features sleeker full-LED headlamps paired with distinctive brow-style LED daytime running lights. The front bumper has been redesigned with vertical fog lamp housings, and the grille also sports a fresh pattern.

At the rear, the hatchback gets LED tail-lamps with a new T-shaped light signature, linked by an LED light bar for a more upmarket look. The sportier rear bumper now has a dual-tone finish, and flush-type illuminated door handles add a modern touch. Additionally, the facelift introduces newly designed alloy wheels inspired by electric vehicles, and new exterior colour options are likely to be offered.

Interior and Features: More Tech, Premium Touches

While the cabin hasn’t been revealed yet, updates are expected to include a reworked dashboard with soft-touch materials and revised upholstery. A major highlight will be the wider rollout of the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which was previously exclusive to the performance-focused Racer variant. The facelift will also feature a fully digital instrument cluster and a 360-degree surround-view camera—enhancements aimed at boosting appeal in a competitive segment.

Powertrains: No Mechanical Changes Expected

Under the hood, the Altroz facelift is expected to carry forward its existing range of five powertrain options:

  • An 88hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine (5-speed manual or 6-speed DCT)

  • A 73.5hp 1.2-litre CNG variant (5-speed manual)

  • A 90hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine (5-speed manual)

  • A 120hp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol in the Altroz Racer (6-speed manual)

The Altroz will continue to hold the distinction of being the only diesel-powered premium hatchback in India.

Market Position and Outlook

The facelift comes at a time when the premium hatchback segment is losing steam, as buyers increasingly gravitate toward compact SUVs. Currently, the Altroz averages around 2,000 units in monthly sales—significantly down from its peak of 5,000 units in FY2021-22. With this comprehensive update, Tata Motors aims to reinvigorate interest in the Altroz and better compete against rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Hyundai i20.
