Norton to Begin Manufacturing Motorcycles in India by 2025

Norton Motorcycles, now owned by TVS, will begin manufacturing bikes in India starting in 2025. In an exciting development, TVS Motor’s MD, Sudarshan Venu, revealed that the company will leverage its strong manufacturing and supply chain capabilities in India to enhance Norton’s operations. While production will continue at Norton’s new Solihull facility in the UK, TVS plans to start production at its Hosur facility by the end of next year.

This move is part of a broader strategy that includes launching six new Norton models over the next three years, with sales in India as a key focus. TVS’s expertise in high-quality manufacturing will be a significant asset for Norton, yet the bikes will retain their unique identity with European design, engineering, and marketing.

This approach aligns with practices seen in other premium European brands like Triumph and Ducati, which manufacture a substantial portion of their bikes in Thailand. TVS also has experience in producing for BMW at its Hosur facility, where it manufactures and co-engineers models like the 310cc bikes and the CE 02 electric scooter.

Details about the specific segments these new Norton motorcycles will target remain under wraps. However, Venu emphasizes that Norton will continue to be a premium brand. The local manufacturing is expected to make these bikes more competitively priced compared to other imported premium models. This strategy promises a blend of high-quality production and affordability, making Norton an attractive option in the Indian market.
