The highly anticipated third-generation Mercedes CLA has been spotted undergoing testing, revealing significant updates to its exterior design. This updated model will continue to feature the sleek four-door sedan format but with substantial styling enhancements.
Captured by the keen eyes at Motor.es during tests in southern Europe, the CLA prototype, though still heavily camouflaged, offers a glimpse of its refined design. Notable among the changes are the sharply contoured headlights, which now incorporate an illuminated star LED pattern, echoing the design language of the latest Mercedes models like the forthcoming E-Class. The rear has also seen updates, with the new wraparound tail lamps becoming more discernible through the camouflage.
Inside, the next-gen CLA is expected to boast advanced tech features, including an available three-screen display, similar to those found in higher-end Mercedes models. This cutting-edge interior setup could be offered as an optional upgrade. The prototype was seen with a glass roof, but the final production model is likely to feature a panoramic sunroof for an even more luxurious experience. Underpinning the new CLA will be the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, which is also set to be the foundation for future A-Class, GLA, and GLB models.
Powertrain and Launch Details for the Next-Gen Mercedes CLA
The upcoming CLA will be available with petrol and non-plug-in hybrid powertrain options, marking a departure from diesel engines for this entry-level luxury sedan. Additionally, Mercedes plans to introduce a fully electric version of the CLA, inspired by the concept unveiled last year. This electric variant will offer both single- and dual-motor configurations, paired with various battery options, providing an impressive range of up to 750km.
With the original CLA having been replaced by the A-Class Limousine as Mercedes’ entry-level sedan, it’s unlikely that the new CLA will be launched in India due to potential overlap with the A-Class. The global debut of the new-generation Mercedes CLA is expected next year.
