Mercedes-Benz to Launch EQS 450 SUV and G 580 in India on January 9

Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its electric portfolio in India with the launch of the EQS 450 SUV and the G 580 featuring EQ technology on January 9. Notably, India will be the first market outside the United States to assemble the EQS SUV as a CKD (completely knocked down) offering, underscoring the brand’s commitment to the region.

Battery and Performance Highlights

The EQS 450 SUV will be the second variant in the EQS lineup (excluding the Maybach) and will debut as a 5-seater. It shares its powertrain with the larger EQS 580 4Matic SUV, featuring a massive 122kWh battery—the largest in any passenger EV in India. With an output of 544hp and 858Nm of torque, it promises powerful performance and impressive range. Using a 200kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes. In comparison, Mercedes’ other electric SUVs like the EQA and EQE house smaller 70.5kWh and 90.5kWh batteries, respectively.

Exterior and Interior Design

The EQS 450 SUV adopts the signature Mercedes-EQ design language with subtle updates. A sleek, aerodynamic silhouette and a blanked-off grille dominate the front, complemented by a light bar connecting the LED headlamps. It also features newly designed 21-inch alloy wheels, giving it a refreshed look while maintaining its premium appeal.

Inside, the cabin prioritizes luxury and technology. Premium upholstery, Energising Air Control Plus, and the expansive 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen—spanning a 12.3-inch driver display, a 17.7-inch infotainment screen, and a passenger display—elevate the experience. Rear passengers benefit from dual 11.6-inch entertainment screens, while a 5-speaker Burmester audio system, ambient lighting, and 5-zone climate control add to the comfort. Safety is comprehensive, featuring nine airbags, Level 2 ADAS, and other advanced driver assistance systems.

Market Position and Pricing

The EQS 450 SUV is tailored for customers seeking extra cabin space, particularly for chauffeur-driven journeys. Positioned between the EQE (₹1.59 crore) and EQS 580 SUVs (₹1.61 crore), it is expected to be competitively priced to attract a broader audience.
