Maruti Suzuki is set to unveil the production-spec eVX SUV at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, scheduled for January 17-22 in New Delhi. Originally anticipated for a global debut this year, the launch of Maruti’s first fully electric SUV was delayed due to various challenges.
Key Highlights of the Maruti eVX:
- Exclusively Manufactured in India: The eVX will be produced entirely in India, marking it as a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki’s electric vehicle ambitions.
- Toyota-Badged Version to Follow: Following the eVX launch, a Toyota-badged version of the SUV will also be introduced.
- Planned Annual Production: The company has planned an annual production output of 1.5 lakh units, primarily for export markets.
Global Launch and Market Strategy
A senior Maruti Suzuki executive recently confirmed that the official debut of the eVX, a born electric vehicle (BEV), will take place at the Auto Expo in India in January 2025, with the launch expected shortly thereafter. While India will serve as the primary production hub, Maruti Suzuki plans to prioritize the European market, followed by Japan, making this a truly global product.
Competitive Landscape
The eVX will enter a competitive segment, facing off against rivals like the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai’s Creta EV, BYD Atto 3, and Mahindra’s upcoming born EV line-up. Developed in collaboration with Toyota, the eVX’s launch will be followed by the introduction of a Toyota-branded variant, further expanding its global reach.
With series production set to begin early next year, the made-in-India eVX is poised to make a strong impact on international markets, particularly in Europe and Japan, where Maruti Suzuki aims to establish a significant presence in the electric vehicle segment.
