KTM has unveiled the 1290 Super Adventure S in India, priced at Rs 22.74 lakh. This high-performance adventure motorcycle is crafted for both rugged off-road terrains and long-distance touring, positioning it as a top-tier offering in KTM’s lineup. The Austrian manufacturer aims to attract both dedicated adventure enthusiasts and long-distance riders with this new model.
Design and Features of the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S
Visually, the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S maintains its bold and aggressive design, available in a single striking color. It features a large 23-liter fuel tank, a protective fairing that directs airflow around the engine, a split-seat arrangement, and an adjustable seat height of 869mm (with the option to lower it by 20mm). The bike is equipped with full LED lighting, including a unique LED headlamp integrated with a radar sensor for advanced features.
Powering the Super Adventure S is a robust 1,301cc V-twin engine, delivering 160hp at 9,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. The motorcycle is fitted with a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel, supported by a high-performance braking setup consisting of a 320mm dual-disc in the front and a 267mm disc in the rear. Suspension is handled by WP’s semi-active USD fork in the front and a semi-active monoshock at the rear, ensuring a smooth and adaptable ride across diverse terrains.
Advanced Electronics and Tech-Driven Features
The 2024 Super Adventure S boasts an array of advanced electronics, including customizable riding modes, lean-sensitive traction control, cornering ABS, and adaptive cruise control. Practical touches include a quick-access storage compartment, USB charging port, and heated grips for added comfort.
Positioned in the premium adventure segment in India, the 1290 Super Adventure S will be available in select KTM flagship stores across seven cities, starting with Bengaluru and Pune. It competes with notable models like the Ducati Multistrada V4, Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro, and BMW R 1300 GS.
Demo Mode for Enhanced Test Experience
An intriguing addition is KTM’s ‘Demo Mode,’ a pay-to-enable system that allows riders to explore all optional electronic aids and features for the first 1,500 kilometers. This trial period includes access to multiple riding modes (like the optional Rally mode), traction control, slide control, an up-and-down quickshifter, cruise control, and other high-tech features. After the trial, riders can permanently unlock specific features at the dealership for an additional cost, which KTM has yet to disclose. This approach allows customers to test features while riding, helping them make more informed decisions.
