Kia Carens Clavis EV Revealed with 490km Claimed Range

Kia has officially previewed the all-electric Carens Clavis ahead of its launch on July 15, offering a glimpse of both the exterior and interior through a teaser video. While the overall design remains similar to the petrol-powered version, the EV gets a few distinct updates — most notably, a claimed driving range of 490km on a single charge.

What’s New on the Outside

Visually, the Carens Clavis EV retains much of the regular model’s design but features subtle electric-specific changes:

  • Mildly revised front bumper

  • Aero-optimized dual-tone alloy wheels

  • Charging port integrated into the sealed-off front fascia

  • Ice-cube style LED fog lamps

  • New silver trim below the charging socket

Interior: More Space, Cleaner Layout

The interior has been slightly reworked to suit its EV character:

  • A new floating-style centre console replaces the gear lever, freeing up additional storage

  • Redesigned wireless charging pad with integrated control buttons

  • Twin 12.3-inch digital screens remain, but the EV version gets a unique colour scheme

The teaser shows a 7-seater layout for now. It’s unclear if Kia will also offer a 6-seater configuration like on the top ICE variants.

Range, Battery, and Powertrain

While Kia hasn’t officially disclosed battery specifications, the Carens Clavis EV is expected to share components with the Hyundai Creta Electric. Likely details include:

  • 42kWh and 51.4kWh battery pack options

  • A front-mounted motor producing 171hp and 255Nm of torque

  • The 490km claimed range likely comes from the larger battery, slightly more than the Creta Electric’s 473km

Rivals and Expected Price

Upon launch, the Carens Clavis EV will compete with the BYD eMax 7, one of the few electric MPVs currently in the market. Pricing is expected to align closely with the Creta Electric, which ranges from ₹17.99 lakh to ₹24.38 lakh (ex-showroom).

With a long range, EV-specific tweaks, and family-friendly packaging, the Carens Clavis EV looks set to be a compelling choice in India’s growing electric car space.
