Hyundai Staria MPV Unveiled at Auto Expo 2025

Hyundai made waves at the Auto Expo 2025 by showcasing the Staria, a premium electric MPV, on January 17. While there are no immediate plans to introduce the Staria to the Indian market, Hyundai is using the event to gauge customer interest. The Staria, already available internationally since 2021, is a spacious, van-like MPV known for its versatility. It offers multiple seating configurations, including an 11-seat option with four rows. However, the version displayed at the expo was a more luxurious 7-seater model.

Distinctive Design

Stretching over 5.2 meters, the Staria embodies the classic silhouette of a people mover. Its design, however, stands out with a sleek, low beltline and expansive glass areas that enhance its unique aesthetic. The front fascia features a striking black bumper with a large mesh grille and rectangular pixel-inspired LED headlamps. The rear is equally bold, showcasing vertical tail lamps with similar pixel detailing, lending the MPV a futuristic look.

Luxurious Cabin

Inside, the Staria offers a blend of functionality and luxury. A vertically oriented central touchscreen sits above a panel of physical controls, while a free-standing digital instrument cluster and four-spoke steering wheel add to the modern feel. Despite being powered by an internal combustion engine, the flat floor enhances cabin accessibility and movement. The highlight is undoubtedly the second-row captain’s chairs, which are powered, ventilated, and designed for ultimate comfort. The third row features a bench-style seat, adding versatility to the cabin layout.

Powertrain and Platform

Underpinning the Staria is the same platform as the Kia Carnival, already familiar to the Indian market. Globally, the Staria is offered with various petrol and diesel engines. However, the model showcased at the Auto Expo was equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, delivering 272 hp and 331 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.

In addition to the Staria, Hyundai also revealed the much-anticipated Creta Electric, with prices starting at ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). While the Staria’s future in India remains uncertain, it demonstrates Hyundai’s commitment to exploring diverse mobility solutions tailored to evolving consumer preferences.
