Honda’s latest teaser for its upcoming electric scooter reveals a key highlight: two removable batteries. Widely speculated to be the Honda Activa Electric, the scooter appears to share its platform with the Honda CUV-e, which debuted at EICMA 2024.
Design and Features
Previous teasers have showcased similarities between the India-spec model and the CUV-e, including a swingarm-mounted motor and a 7-inch TFT display. The new teaser confirms that the scooter will house two removable batteries under the seat, mirroring the design of its international counterpart.
However, the dual-battery setup compromises boot space, with only a limited storage cubby available behind the battery slots. While Honda could address this with a potential storage compartment in the front apron, no official details have been shared yet.
Battery and Range
The CUV-e’s batteries, each with a capacity of 1.3 kWh, deliver a claimed range of over 70 km on international models. Interestingly, the India-spec teaser indicates a longer range of 104 km in Standard mode, suggesting possible tweaks for the local market.
Performance Expectations
The international version of the scooter boasts a peak output of 6 kW and a top speed of 80 km/h. While the India-spec performance figures remain under wraps, they are likely to be in a similar range.
Launch Date
Honda will officially unveil the scooter on November 27, marking the brand’s first electric two-wheeler for the Indian market. This launch also makes Honda the pioneer among Japanese manufacturers in introducing an electric vehicle in India.
The addition of dual removable batteries highlights Honda’s focus on convenience and flexibility, though it comes at the expense of storage space. It will be interesting to see how the scooter balances practicality and performance when it hits the roads.
