Bharat NCAP Safety Ratings: Tata SUVs Lead with 5-Star Scores

The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), introduced by the Indian government in October 2023, has replaced the Global NCAP for conducting crash tests and assigning safety ratings to vehicles sold in India. This initiative aims to help buyers make informed decisions regarding vehicle safety. Since its inception, BNCAP has tested four vehicles, primarily SUVs, with the following results:

  1. Tata Nexon EV

The Tata Nexon EV earned an impressive 5-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection. It scored 29.86 out of 32 points for adult protection and 44.95 out of 49 points for child protection. Priced between Rs 14.49 lakh and Rs 19.49 lakh, it competes with the Mahindra XUV400 and offers an ARAI-certified range of up to 465 km.

  2. Tata Punch EV
