Bajaj Chetak Sales Zoom Past 5 Lakh Units

Bajaj Auto’s electric scooter, the Chetak, has achieved a major milestone with cumulative sales crossing the 5.1 lakh mark since its reintroduction in January 2020. What stands out is the scooter’s recent surge in popularity—over 2.06 lakh units were sold in just the last 10 months (since November 2024), highlighting its growing demand.

Rapid Growth in Recent Years

  • The Chetak initially took 46 months to reach its first 1 lakh sales.

  • However, momentum picked up significantly thereafter, with 3.48 lakh units sold in the 20 months since April 2024.

  • The most striking achievement is that the latest 2 lakh units were dispatched in under 10 months, reflecting a steep upward trajectory in sales.

Overcoming Challenges

Despite production disruptions caused by a rare-earth magnet shortage earlier this year, Bajaj has managed to bounce back quickly. While the temporary setback allowed rivals like the TVS iQube to gain ground, the Chetak continues to remain one of India’s top-selling electric scooters. With production now stabilised, Bajaj is expected to recover its strong market position.

Strong Network and Product Strategy

A key factor behind the Chetak’s success is Bajaj’s extensive 3,800+ service touchpoint network, which gives it an edge over newer EV startups. The company has also strengthened the Chetak line-up with four variants across two battery options:

  • Chetak 3001 with a 3 kWh battery

  • Chetak 3501, 3502, and 3503 with a 3.5 kWh pack

Prices for the Chetak range currently start at ₹99,900 and extend up to ₹1.35 lakh (ex-showroom), catering to a wide spectrum of buyers.

The Road Ahead

With its recent sales momentum, diversified portfolio, and expanded production capacity, the Bajaj Chetak is well-positioned to continue as a frontrunner in India’s fast-growing EV scooter market.
