California-based electric carmaker Fisker Inc. has recently announced its plans to introduce a limited edition of the Ocean electric SUV specifically for the Indian market. The variant being launched in India is the top-of-the-line Extreme version, which will be limited to just 100 units. It has been named the Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition, taking inspiration from Fisker’s India headquarters in Hyderabad, established in April of the previous year.
Fisker aims to complete the homologation process for the all-electric SUV in India by September, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Fisker’s interest in entering the Indian market with the Ocean SUV was initially reported in January 2020, and the plans are now materializing after the SUV entered production in late 2022. The range-topping Extreme version was unveiled in March of the current year.
Key Features of the Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition:
1. Powertrain
The top-spec Ocean Extreme is equipped with a 113 kWh battery pack and dual electric motors generating 572 horsepower and 737 Nm of torque. Fisker claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds and offers a range of 707 km on a single charge, based on the WLTP cycle. This makes it the SUV with the highest claimed range currently available in Europe.
2. Sustainability
The Ocean SUV emphasizes sustainability, featuring vegan interiors, recycled carpets made from regenerated nylon, recycled rubber in various components, and even a solar panel on the roof to augment the driving range.
3. Features
The Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition offers a range of advanced features, including a 17.1-inch revolving touchscreen infotainment system, a digital rear-view mirror, a powered tailgate, a 3D surround sound system, front and rear heated seats, 360-degree cameras, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and different driving modes named Earth, Fun, and Hyper. It remains to be seen whether Fisker will incorporate any India-specific elements into this edition.
Pricing of the Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition in India
Fisker intends to align the prices of the Ocean Extreme in India with its European counterparts. In Germany, the Ocean Extreme is priced at €69,950, which roughly converts to around Rs 64.5 lakh. However, this price does not account for import taxes and logistics. Considering that it will be fully imported, prices could exceed Rs 1 crore, putting it in the league of luxury SUVs such as the BMW iX, Audi e-tron, and Jaguar I-Pace.
Furthermore, Fisker has expressed its consideration of establishing a battery and vehicle assembly plant in India, contingent upon receiving adequate support from the government. This indicates the brand’s potential interest in future endeavors within India, as stated by Chairman and CEO Henrik Fisker, who expressed, “India offers exciting opportunities for us, and we plan to grow our brand rapidly over the coming years.”
