Even before the Tata Punch hit the market, it was said that in a couple of years, the small SUV would also be made as an all-electric model. A test model of what looks like the Punch EV has been seen for the first time. This shows that Tata has been working on the same thing. Tata’s other electric cars are the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV Prime. The Punch EV will fill the space between the two.
What proves that it’s a punch EV?
The lack of a muffler is the best way to tell that it is an electric car. But we can’t see a charging port through the disguise, so we think it will be where the refueling port is. Another difference is that the current test mule had disc brakes on all four wheels, which the gasoline-powered Punch doesn’t have.
Interior Caught On Camera Too
Even though the spy shot of the interior shows the same layout with blue accents around the AC vents, you can see that the Punch EV has a rotary dial and an electric parking brake in the center dashboard.
Features from the regular internal combustion engine (ICE) versions have been kept, such as the semi-digital gauge panel, buttons on the steering wheel, auto AC, and 7-inch infotainment system.
Platform, Battery Pack, and Range
The Punch EV will be the first electric vehicle from Tata to be built on the ALFA technology. Even though we don’t know much about its electric engine, we think it could have two battery pack choices like the Tigor EV. The Punch EV is said to have a range of between 300km and 350km.
When will I be able to get it?
We think Tata will start selling the Punch EV in the second half of 2023. It could have a starting price of around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Citroen eC3 and offer a more powerful option to the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV.
