The BMW X3 M40i is now available for Rs 86.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is the sporty version of the X3 SUV, and its engine is the same as the one in the BMW M340i car. The X3 M40i is offered in India as a completely built unit (CBU), but there are only a few of them. The X3 M40i is already being reserved for a small fee of Rs 5 lakh.

The M Sport package is standard on the X3 M40i. It has M-specific kidney grilles, headlights, wing mirrors, and tailpipes, as well as 20-inch metal wheels with two different colors. Black paint is used on the window frames, roof rails, and lines on the kidney grille. The brake calipers are painted red. BMW makes the X3 M40i in two colors: Brooklyn Grey and Black Sapphire.

Inside, the X3 M40i has a black interior, while the regular X3 has a beige or brown interior with black accents. As part of the M Sport package, the steering wheel is stitched in a M color and has a M badge at the bottom. The seat belts are also made for the M Sport package. On the normal model, the plaque in the center console said “X3.” On the M model, it now says “M.”
The BMW iDrive 7 operating system and a Harmon Kardon sound system run on a 12.3-inch tablet. It also has a heads-up display, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, triple-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel.
BMW X3 M40i powertrain
The X3 M40i has a 6-cylinder, 3.0-liter, turbocharged gasoline engine that makes 360 horsepower, which is 14 horsepower less than the M340i. Torque, on the other hand, stays the same at 500Nm. A transmission with eight speeds sends power to all four wheels. BMW says the X3 M40i can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, which is 0.5 seconds slower than the M340i. Its top speed is capped at 250 km/h.
It also has M-specific performance parts like an adaptive suspension, changeable sport steering, a differential with performance control (differential locks), and M Sport brakes.
BMW X3 M40i rivals
The X3 M40i doesn’t have a straight competitor, but in terms of performance, the Porsche Macan S with its 2.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 engine that makes 380hp and 520Nm is the closest competitor. The Macan S can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, and its top speed is 259 km/h. But the price of the Porsche is Rs 1.43 crore, which is Rs 56.50 lakh more than the price of the BMW.
The Audi Q5 (Rs 61.51 lakh–Rs 67.31 lakh) and the Volvo XC60 (Rs 67.50 lakh) are two cars that compete with the standard X3.
