Leapmotor B10 SUV design patented in India: Could this electrified SUV be headed here?

Chinese electric vehicle brand Leapmotor has taken another step towards its India entry by filing a design patent for the B10 SUV. This marks the second patent filing by the brand in the country after the C10, signalling growing intent to expand its global footprint into one of the world’s fastest-growing auto markets.

While a patent filing doesn’t guarantee a launch, it strongly indicates that the B10 is under evaluation for India. Leapmotor, backed by global automotive giant Stellantis, had already confirmed its India plans in 2025, though the rollout timeline remains unclear.

Leapmotor B10: Dimensions and exterior design

The Leapmotor B10 sits in the midsize SUV category with proportions that align well with Indian market preferences. It measures 4,515mm in length, 1,885mm in width and 1,655mm in height, with a 2,735mm wheelbase.

The design follows a clean, modern approach:

  • Sleek LED DRLs connected by a gloss-black strip
  • Vertically stacked LED headlamps and fog lamps
  • Slightly raised bonnet for a more upright SUV stance
  • Flush door handles and 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Connected LED tail-lamps with a roof-mounted spoiler

Additional highlights include a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, rear privacy glass and feature-loaded ORVMs with heating, memory and reverse tilt functions.

Minimalist cabin packed with features

Inside, the B10 adopts a contemporary and uncluttered layout focused on technology and comfort.

Key interior highlights:

  • 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster
  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 12-speaker premium audio system
  • 64-colour ambient lighting
  • Wireless charging pad

The SUV also focuses on comfort with eco-friendly upholstery, ventilated and heated front seats, and even a heated steering wheel—features rarely seen together in this segment.

Safety and ADAS tech

Safety is a strong suit for the B10. The SUV comes equipped with:

  • 7 airbags
  • 360-degree camera
  • Level 2 ADAS with 17 assistance features

These include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and rear cross-traffic braking. Notably, the electric version of the B10 secured a full 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests in 2025, boosting its global credibility.

Powertrain options: EV and range-extender hybrid

Globally, Leapmotor offers the B10 with two electrified powertrain choices:

Range-extender hybrid (EREV)

  • 1.5-litre petrol engine acts as a generator
  • 18.8kWh battery pack
  • 218hp electric motor drives the wheels
  • Claimed combined range: up to 900km
  • Fast charging: 30-80% in 30 minutes (DC)

Fully electric version

  • 67.1kWh LFP battery pack
  • 218hp electric motor
  • 0-100kph in around 8 seconds
  • Top speed: 171kph
  • WLTP range: 434km
  • Fast charging up to 168kW

Expected positioning in India

If launched in India, the B10 will enter the competitive midsize electric SUV space. Its EV version could rival models like the BYD Atto 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, while upcoming options such as the Tata Harrier EV could also be key competitors.

Interestingly, the range-extender hybrid variant would carve out a unique niche, as there are currently no direct rivals offering this technology in India.

Stellantis strategy and India plans

Leapmotor’s India journey will be led by Stellantis, which already operates brands like Citroen, Jeep and Maserati in the country.

The company is reportedly considering bringing Leapmotor models via CKD (completely knocked down) kits and assembling them at its Ranjangaon facility before gradually increasing localisation.

What to expect next

Although there is no official launch timeline yet, the B10’s patent filing suggests that Leapmotor is actively studying the Indian market. If introduced, the SUV could stand out with its dual powertrain strategy, premium feature list and strong safety credentials.
