KTM’s popular middleweight street fighter is getting a makeover. The Austrian manufacturer has been developing an updated version of the 790 Duke, and recent type-approval filings from China have given us our first official glimpse of what riders can expect from the refreshed model.
Bold New Look Draws Inspiration from Flagship Models
The upcoming 790 Duke receives a comprehensive styling overhaul that aligns it with KTM’s current design language. The most eye-catching update is a redesigned front end featuring a central LED headlamp flanked by distinctive daytime running lights—a layout reminiscent of both the 990 Duke and the flagship 1390 Super Duke R. While the design philosophy is shared, the headlight assembly itself is unique to the 790.
Beyond the front fascia, the motorcycle sports more aggressive bodywork with sharper fuel tank contours and updated side panels that give it a more contemporary appearance.
Structural and Component Upgrades
Beneath the new bodywork, KTM has made some meaningful changes to the chassis. The subframe has been completely redesigned, and earlier testing photos from Europe revealed an all-new exhaust system, suggesting potential improvements to both aesthetics and performance characteristics.
The braking system has also received attention, with WP-branded calipers replacing the J.Juan units found on the outgoing model. This change could indicate improvements in braking performance, though details about updated brake discs or ABS components haven’t been confirmed yet.
Proven Powertrain Continues
KTM appears to be taking an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach with the mechanical heart of the 790 Duke. The 799cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine is expected to carry over largely unchanged, meaning riders can anticipate similar performance figures—approximately 95 horsepower and 87 Newton-meters of torque. The core chassis, including the signature steel trellis frame and WP suspension components, also seems to be retained from the current generation.
Production and Market Availability
The updated Duke will roll off production lines in China through KTM’s partnership with CFMoto, which explains its appearance in Chinese regulatory documents. As of now, KTM hasn’t announced which global markets will receive the new 790 Duke, and whether it will make a return to the Indian market remains uncertain.
Stay tuned for official specifications, pricing, and availability details as KTM prepares to unveil the 2026 790 Duke to the public.
