New BMW iX3 Confirmed For September 5 Debut As First Neue Klasse EV

BMW has officially announced that the next-generation iX3 electric SUV will make its global debut on September 5, 2025. The model will be the first production car based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, previewed last year by the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. This launch marks the beginning of a new era for BMW, bringing major advancements in range, efficiency, and charging technology. Once introduced, the new iX3 will go up against premium rivals such as the Audi Q6 e-tron and the Mercedes-Benz GLC EV.

A True Neue Klasse SUV

Unlike the current iX3, which is essentially an electric conversion of the X3 on the CLAR platform, the upcoming SUV is designed as a ground-up EV. Built on BMW’s new Gen6 architecture, the iX3 promises significantly better performance, more efficient batteries, and faster charging capabilities.

BMW has revealed that all Neue Klasse EVs will benefit from:

  • 20% higher energy density batteries compared to existing packs

  • 800V electrical system enabling ultra-fast charging

  • A 350km range boost in just 10 minutes

While detailed battery and motor specs are still under wraps, test mules have shown remarkable figures — up to 900km on the CLTC cycle and around 800km on the WLTP cycle.

Current vs Next-Gen iX3

For perspective, the outgoing iX3 sold overseas is powered by a 286hp rear-mounted motor paired with an 80kWh battery (74kWh usable). It supports 400V charging and delivers up to 461km WLTP range, with 100km added in 10 minutes at a 350kW charger. The Neue Klasse-based SUV is expected to easily surpass these numbers and offer more real-world usability.

Design Inspired By Neue Klasse Vision

The upcoming iX3’s styling will take strong cues from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. Expect to see a:

  • Closed-off front fascia with a sleek illuminated kidney grille

  • Slender LED daytime running lights

  • Smooth side panels with flush door handles

  • Slim horizontal tail-lamps at the rear (not joined by a light bar)

Reports suggest the new iX3 could be slightly larger than today’s model, offering more cabin space and presence on the road. Its overall design philosophy borrows heavily from BMW’s flagship iX, but in a more compact, sporty form.

What’s Next

Following the SUV, BMW will expand the Neue Klasse range with a sedan version of the iX3, likely positioned as an all-electric alternative to the 3 Series. Together, these models will establish the foundation of BMW’s next-generation EV lineup.

With its cutting-edge platform, advanced charging tech, and futuristic design, the new BMW iX3 is shaping up to be one of the most important EV launches of 2025.
