Mercedes-Benz Recalls EQS, S-Class, GLC and SL 55 in India Due to Fire Hazard

Mercedes-Benz India has issued a fresh voluntary recall affecting four of its premium models: the EQS electric sedan, S-Class (including Maybach variants), GLC SUV, and the AMG SL 55 roadster. This latest action—its sixth in 2025 so far—impacts 30 vehicles in total, as per data published by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

What’s the Issue?

The root of the recall lies in potential faults with the vehicles’ fuse boxes. According to SIAM’s listing, improper reworking of the fuse boxes could lead to multiple system failures. This includes sudden loss of propulsion, malfunctioning instrument clusters, and failure of crucial safety features such as restraint systems—all of which pose a risk of accidents. In extreme cases, this defect could lead to overheating and possibly a fire.

Breakdown of Affected Models in India

  • EQS sedan (Electric): 16 units

  • S-Class / Maybach (Petrol): 9 units

  • GLC (Petrol and Diesel): 3 units

  • AMG SL 55 (Petrol): 2 units

These vehicles were produced between mid-2023 and early 2024. Mercedes-Benz will be reaching out to affected customers and offering a free rectification at its authorised service centres.

Model Fuel Type Production Period
S-Class / Maybach Petrol June 22, 2023 – March 20, 2024
AMG SL 55 Petrol July 5, 2023 – August 28, 2023
GLC Petrol & Diesel September 9, 2023 – December 4, 2023
EQS Electric July 19, 2023 – April 8, 2024

This is not the first time Mercedes has recalled cars in 2025 for fire-related risks. Similar issues triggered recalls in March for the AMG E 53 and other performance models. Other recalls this year addressed problems such as ECU software glitches and missing airbag warning labels.

While recalls are a standard part of ensuring vehicle safety, the frequency and scale of these events, particularly from a high-end brand like Mercedes-Benz, are raising eyebrows this year.
