TVS recently refreshed its popular Jupiter 110 scooter, incorporating key design elements and technology from its larger sibling, the Jupiter 125. With notable upgrades and smart features, the new Jupiter 110 promises better performance and efficiency. Here’s a breakdown of its real-world fuel economy based on our testing.
Real-World Mileage Results
To measure the Jupiter 110’s fuel efficiency, we conducted separate highway and city tests under controlled conditions:
- Highway Performance: Over a 54km stretch, the scooter consumed 0.95 liters of fuel, delivering an impressive mileage of 57.9 km/l.
- City Efficiency: Navigating Mumbai’s dense urban traffic for nearly 50km, it used 0.82 liters of fuel, resulting in a commendable mileage of 56.95 km/l.
Understanding the TVS Jupiter 110’s Efficiency
The Jupiter 110’s efficient performance is thanks to its 113cc engine, which is a downsized version of the Jupiter 125’s powerplant. This engine produces 8hp and 9.8Nm of torque, with 0.6Nm contributed by its Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). The ISG not only boosts acceleration when needed but also complements the scooter’s fuel-saving technologies like the engine start/stop system, which automatically shuts off the engine during idling. Together, these features enhance fuel efficiency, especially in stop-and-go traffic.
The scooter performs well within urban settings and maintains a steady 60-70 km/h on highways, speeds that align with how most riders use scooters daily. While this is slightly slower than the average speed maintained during motorcycle testing (typically 75-80 km/h), it reflects real-world usage for this segment.
How We Test Fuel Economy
Our fuel-efficiency testing follows a meticulous process to ensure accuracy and consistency:
- The scooter’s tank is filled to the brim, and tyre pressures are set to the manufacturer’s recommended levels.
- Fixed routes for city and highway riding are used, with average speeds that replicate common riding conditions.
- Rider weight and payload are standardized using ballast for uniformity across tests.
- After completing each route, the fuel tank is refilled to calculate the exact consumption based on the distance traveled.
Final Thoughts
The TVS Jupiter 110 impresses with its exceptional fuel economy, practicality, and innovative features. Its efficient engine and user-friendly technology make it an excellent choice for daily commuting, offering a balance of performance and savings that urban riders will appreciate.
