Skoda Auto is gearing up to showcase the latest iteration of its flagship sedan, the fourth-generation Superb, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 this January. Alongside the Superb, Skoda will also unveil the updated Kodiaq and the sporty Octavia RS.
A Refined Evolution of a Classic
The new Superb builds on the strengths of its predecessor with a sleek and modernized design inspired by Skoda’s “Modern Solid” philosophy. The exterior now features sharper, more angular lines, blending contemporary aesthetics with the brand’s signature design elements.
Upgraded Interior with Smart Features
Inside, the Superb introduces advanced features like customizable ‘smart dial’ controls, as seen in the latest Kodiaq. While many functions have transitioned to a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the car retains some physical controls for added convenience. The interior emphasizes user-centric design, offering a balance between digital sophistication and practical usability.
Powerful Engine Options for India
Globally, the new Superb offers a range of petrol and diesel engines. For the Indian market, Skoda is expected to introduce the 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine with outputs of either 204 hp or 265 hp, catering to performance enthusiasts and luxury seekers alike.
Fully Imported Model for India
Like its predecessor, the new Superb will arrive in India as a completely built unit (CBU). This strategy stems from the relocation of its production to Bratislava, Slovakia, which lacks facilities for assembling completely knocked-down (CKD) kits. The switch to full imports, while necessary, poses challenges for pricing and market acceptance, as seen with the third-generation model.
Addressing Market Challenges
Skoda plans to make India-specific adjustments, such as calibrating the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) for local road conditions. However, the cost implications of these changes, coupled with the high import duties, may impact its competitive positioning. Skoda is also considering reintroducing a diesel variant to appeal to loyal customers in this segment.
What to Expect at the Expo
The Bharat Mobility Global Expo, commencing on January 17, will shed more light on the Superb’s India-specific features, pricing, and launch timeline. The new-gen Superb aims to uphold its legacy as a premium sedan, albeit with a fresh approach to tackling the Indian market.
