Toyota India is gearing up to unveil the prices of the all-new ninth-generation Camry on December 11. This latest iteration of the Camry, which made its global debut in late 2023, brings a refreshed design, upgraded features, and a singular petrol-hybrid powertrain option. It replaces the outgoing model, first introduced in 2019 and updated in 2022.
Exterior Design: Sleek and Evolutionary
The new Camry retains its predecessor’s successful formula while embracing a modern, dynamic design. Built on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform—a versatile foundation shared across various Toyota and Lexus vehicles globally—it offers enhanced driving dynamics and structural rigidity.
Visually, the new Camry is an evolution of the previous model. It is slightly longer while maintaining the same wheelbase, resulting in balanced proportions. The front fascia boasts a Lexus-inspired aesthetic, particularly with its distinctive anvil-shaped chin. Compact headlight clusters, featuring LED Daytime Running Lights, lend a sharper, more sophisticated character. Along the sides, bold creases enhance its profile, while the rear receives new C-shaped taillights for a contemporary finish.
Interior and Features: Cutting-Edge Tech Meets Comfort
Inside, the ninth-generation Camry introduces a completely revamped cabin with a modern dashboard layout and dual digital screens. The instrument cluster features a 7-inch digital display, while the centerpiece is a floating 12.3-inch touchscreen for infotainment. Premium features such as a JBL sound system, heads-up display, and digital key integration are expected.
Catering to its chauffeur-driven clientele, especially in India, the rear seats offer superior comfort with ventilation, a recline function, and controls for blinds conveniently located between the seats. The cabin also incorporates advanced safety technologies with Toyota’s Safety Sense suite, including adaptive cruise control with curve speed assist, lane departure warning with steering support, and a pre-collision braking system.
Powertrain and Performance: Efficient Hybrid Power
Under the hood, the new Camry is powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of 227hp. The powertrain, managed by an eCVT gearbox, promises improved fuel efficiency of around 25 km/l (claimed), significantly up from the outgoing model’s 19.1 km/l.
Assembly and Availability
Toyota will assemble the new Camry at its Bidadi facility in Karnataka using imported kits. Although the official pricing will be announced in December, customer deliveries are slated to commence in early 2024. Enthusiasts can catch a glimpse of the sedan at Toyota’s exhibit during the Bharat Mobility Show in January.
With its updated design, tech-rich interior, and efficient hybrid system, the new Camry aims to strengthen its appeal in the premium sedan segment, especially among discerning buyers prioritizing comfort and sustainability.
