Mahindra’s XUV 3XO compact SUV has earned a top-tier 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) for both adult and child occupant protection. Tested on the AX7 L and MX2 variants, this impressive rating applies to the entire XUV 3XO lineup. Alongside the XUV 3XO, BNCAP also released crash test results for Mahindra’s Thar Roxx SUV and XUV400 EV.
Mahindra XUV 3XO: Adult Occupant Protection
In the adult occupant protection (AOP) category, the XUV 3XO scored 29.36 out of 32 points. BNCAP’s report highlighted strong protection for the head and neck of both driver and front passenger, though it noted adequate protection for the driver’s chest and marginal protection for the left leg, likely due to impact with the center console.
The SUV achieved 13.36 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a perfect 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test, demonstrating robust side-impact protection. It also met requirements for Electronic Stability Control (ESC) testing. However, BNCAP did not confirm the stability of the body shell under additional loads.
Mahindra XUV 3XO: Child Occupant Protection
In child occupant protection (COP), the XUV 3XO scored an impressive 43 out of 49 points, receiving full marks in the dynamic crash test (24/24) and CRS installation test (12/12). In the vehicle assessment test, it secured 7 out of 13 points. Tests were conducted with rearward-facing child seats for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies, secured in the front passenger seat using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.
Safety Features in the Mahindra XUV 3XO
The XUV 3XO comes equipped with six airbags, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, ESC, ISOFIX anchors for rear outboard seats, and a passenger airbag cut-off switch. It also adheres to AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms, with top variants featuring an ADAS suite.
In terms of competition, the Tata Nexon recently scored 29.41 out of 32 in AOP and 43.83 out of 49 in COP during BNCAP testing. The XUV 3XO’s predecessor, the XUV300, previously set records with its AOP and COP scores in Global NCAP’s 2020 assessments, establishing Mahindra’s commitment to safety.
