TVS to Launch Budget-Friendly Electric Scooter Before Festive Season

TVS Motor Company, a key player in India’s electric two-wheeler market, is gearing up to introduce a new entry-level electric scooter ahead of the upcoming festive season. This new model is expected to be priced below the base variant of the popular iQube, making it the most affordable EV offering from the brand yet.

Having entered the EV segment in 2020 with the iQube, TVS has consistently ranked among the top three electric two-wheeler manufacturers in terms of monthly sales. The iQube itself boasts one of the most extensive variant lineups in the segment, with options across three battery capacities. Its pricing ranges from approximately ₹1 lakh for the base 2.2kWh variant to nearly ₹2 lakh for the flagship 5.1kWh model.

The upcoming scooter will reportedly sit below the iQube in TVS’s electric portfolio, targeting budget-conscious buyers. To achieve this, it is likely to come with a smaller battery pack, simplified features, and minimalistic design elements. It may continue to use a hub-mounted motor, similar to the iQube’s Bosch-sourced setup, in a bid to keep production costs low.

Sources indicate that TVS is aiming for a market introduction just before the festive season, positioning the scooter in the ₹90,000 to ₹1 lakh (ex-showroom) price range. This strategic launch timing would allow the company to capitalize on heightened demand during the celebratory period.

While the name of this new electric scooter is still under wraps, speculation suggests it could align with TVS’s existing brand lines. The Jupiter nameplate—already widely recognized in the petrol scooter segment—is a strong candidate, especially since TVS is also preparing to launch a CNG-powered Jupiter this year. If that happens, the Jupiter would become the first two-wheeler brand in India to offer petrol, CNG, and electric versions.

Alternatively, TVS might choose to expand its XL range into the EV space. Patent filings for names like “XL EV” and “E-XL” hint at a potential electric version of the company’s rugged, utilitarian XL moped. The current XL 100 is one of the most affordable petrol-powered two-wheelers in the country, and an electric variant could be positioned as a cost-effective urban mobility solution.

Whether TVS integrates the new scooter under its existing Jupiter or XL branding—or introduces an entirely new sub-brand—remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that this move reflects TVS’s continued focus on expanding its EV lineup and offering value-driven products in an increasingly competitive market.
