During a recent investor call, TVS CEO KN Radhakrishnan announced a significant increase in the company’s electric two-wheeler sales, with figures rising from 29,000 to 48,000 units in the last quarter. This remarkable growth underscores TVS’s growing influence in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. Adding to this momentum, Radhakrishnan revealed plans for launching a new electric two-wheeler in the next three months.
Speculations Around the New EV Model
While specifics about the brand or details of the upcoming electric vehicle were not disclosed, Radhakrishnan emphasized that the new product would be focused on meeting customer needs. Industry observers are speculating that the launch might be the much-awaited iQube ST variant. This hypothesis stems from hints dropped at last year’s TVS MotoSoul festival and the recent investor call, suggesting a 2024 launch.
Potential Features of the iQube ST
The iQube ST, if it is the upcoming model, is expected to be a top-tier offering in TVS’s electric vehicle lineup. Key features anticipated include:
- Battery and Range: Equipped with a 4.56kWh battery, the iQube ST is touted to have a 145km range under the Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) conditions.
- Charging Time and Capability: The model is designed for a quick charging time, reaching 80% battery in approximately 4 hours and 6 minutes using a 950W charger. It is also expected to be the only variant in the iQube series to support fast charging at 1.5kW.
- Performance Enhancements: While retaining the hub-mounted motor seen in the base iQube and the iQube S, the iQube ST is likely to offer a slightly higher top speed, increasing from 78kph to 82kph.
Implications for the EV Market
The launch of this new electric two-wheeler by TVS is set to add significant value to the rapidly evolving EV landscape in India, particularly in the context of the changing subsidies under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) scheme. This launch not only signifies TVS’s commitment to electric mobility but also promises to offer consumers more advanced and efficient electric two-wheeler options.
