The fourth-gen X-Trail, based on the CMF-C platform, has been available overseas since 2021 in both 5- and 7-seater versions. India will receive the three-row model, featuring an upright, squared-off design. The SUV measures 4,680mm in length, 1,840mm in width, and 1,725mm in height, with a 2,705mm wheelbase. It boasts a turning radius of 5.5m, ground clearance of 210mm, and 255/45 R20 tyres.

Interior Highlights:

The India-spec X-Trail will include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, wireless smartphone charger, 360-degree camera, paddle shifters, and a range of seating configurations. The second row features a 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding, and reclining setup, while the third row offers 50/50 split-folding and reclining functions. Safety features encompass seven airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill-start assist, and front parking sensors.

Powertrain:

The X-Trail for India will be powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, producing 163hp and 300Nm of torque. This engine features a variable compression ratio and a 12V mild-hybrid system. The powertrain is mated to a shift-by-wire CVT automatic gearbox, designed to minimize the rubber band effect.

Expected Price and Rivals:

Expected to be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh, the X-Trail will compete with the Toyota Fortuner (Rs 33.43 lakh-51.44 lakh), Skoda Kodiaq (Rs 39.99 lakh), MG Gloster (Rs 38.80 lakh-43.16 lakh), and Jeep Meridian (Rs 29.49 lakh-39.83 lakh). The launch of the X-Trail is a strategic move by Nissan to rejuvenate interest in the brand as it prepares for a new product lineup from 2025 onwards.
