In a surprising but welcome move, Bajaj Auto has confirmed that it will introduce the export-spec KTM 390 Enduro R in India within the next two months. This announcement follows the mixed reception of the India-spec 390 Enduro, which came with reduced suspension travel—a point of contention among off-road enthusiasts and media reviewers alike.
Dual Options for Indian Buyers
The international-spec KTM 390 Enduro R will be sold alongside the current India-spec variant. While the locally sold model comes with a more accessible seat height and 200mm (front) / 205mm (rear) suspension travel—borrowed from the 390 Adventure—the global version is significantly more off-road oriented, boasting 230mm of travel at both ends.
This upgraded suspension setup promises enhanced trail performance, better bump absorption, and greater versatility for hardcore adventure riders.
What’s Different?
The main differences between the two versions are in the suspension and tyres. Interestingly, the locally produced Mitas E-07 Enduro Trail tyres, manufactured by Reise Moto, performed admirably during media rides and will likely remain unchanged for both variants.
The longer suspension travel on the export-spec model, however, means a taller seat height and potentially sharper off-road dynamics—features that appeal to experienced riders looking to push limits on challenging terrain.
Launch Timeline and Pricing
Bajaj has stated that the international version of the 390 Enduro R will go on sale within 45 to 60 days, pending the required homologation process. Pricing details are yet to be confirmed, but it is expected that the export-spec version will carry a slight premium over the current model, which is priced at ₹3.37 lakh (ex-showroom).
For comparison, this pricing places it between the two variants of the KTM 390 Adventure and roughly ₹7,000 above the Kawasaki KLX 230—a much lighter machine, but considerably less powerful.
Final Thoughts
By offering both the standard and international versions of the 390 Enduro R, Bajaj and KTM are giving Indian consumers more choice. Riders preferring a lower seat height and more manageable stance still have a solid option, while those seeking full-blown off-road performance can now look forward to the more capable, globally-spec model.
This move signals KTM’s responsiveness to enthusiast feedback and a clear commitment to delivering a more authentic adventure biking experience in India.
